Configuring Advanced DHCP Scope Designs

You can configure advanced DHCP scope designs called super scopes. A super scope is a collection of individual scopes that are grouped together for administrative purposes. This allows client computers to receive an IP address from multiple logical subnets even when the clients are located on the same physical subnet. You can only create a super scope if you have two or more IP scopes already created in DHCP. You can use the New Super scope Wizard to select the scopes that you wish to combine to create a super scope.
Benefits of Super scopes
- if a scope runs out of addresses and you cannot add more addresses from the subnet, you can instead add a new subnet to the DHCP server.
- when you need to move clients gradually into a new IP numbering scheme.
