Repairing Your IP Address

 


Using the Graphical User Interface (GUI) to repair your IP address

  1. Locate the Search Bar at the bottom left of the Taskbar. Search Bar
  2. In the Search Bar type "Network and Sharing Center". Windows will automatically start searching once you begin typing. Left click "Network and Sharing Center" once the search
  3. populates.
  4. In the top section labeled "View your active networks", find the appropriate connection. If the computer is using a wired connection from the modem or router, look for "Local Area Connection". If using a wireless connection, look for "Wi-Fi (name of your wireless network)". Click the name of the connection.
Connections 


  1. A separate window lableled "WiFi Status" will appear (the name may be different if using a wired connection). This screen provides details for the connection, including wireless network name, connectivity status, and the duration of the connection.
    • Clicking the Diagnose button will allow the connection to reconnect or repair the IP address.
    • Clicking the Details button will open a separate window labeled Network Connection Details, and will show more information about the connection such as IP address, default Gateway and DNS server.

Using the Command Line Interface to repair your IP address

  1. Locate the Search Bar at the bottom left of the Taskbar. Search Bar
  2. In the Search Bar type "cmd". Windows will automatically start searching once you begin typing. Left click "Command Prompt" once the search populates.

  2. The Command Line Interface (CLI) will display. You can release and renew their networking IP Address from this command prompt.
  3.  Commands
  4. Following the available prompt, type ipconfig/all and press Enter. This will display all available connection types and the available IP Address for each. ipconfig ipconfig results
  5. Following the available prompt, type ipconfig/release and press Enter. This will release all available IP addresses on the available connection types.

  6. Following the available prompt, type ipconfig/renew and press Enter. This will reconnect each available connection and display the IP address provided to that connection.
